Walk from Gracie Mansion to the United Nations
Posted on June 22, 2010 | No CommentsOn Sunday I walked from Gracie Mansion to the United Nations (about 90th street to 42nd Street). The highlights for me were the small, out-of-the-way streets, alleys and overlooks such as Henderson Place, Riverview Terrace and Beekman Place. I've included a slideshow. -
Bike and Boat Tour of Jamaica Bay
Posted on June 7, 2010 | No CommentsTwo weeks ago, my girlfriend and I biked around Jamaica Bay, stopping at the Wildlife Refuge and cycling along the Rockaway Beach and Jacob Riis Park Boardwalks. Then we took a three-hour, narrated boat tour of the Bay with the American Littoral Society. -

Posted on May 18, 2010 | 1 CommentTwo weeks ago, I biked down the West Side of Manhattan and took an early morning ferry to Staten Island. During my trip, I visited Snug Harbor, the Alice Austen House, Historic Richmond Town and other sites. Plus, I biked the South Beach Boardwalk. -
Environmental Tour of South Bronx
Posted on May 18, 2010 | 1 CommentLast month I went on an Environmental Bike Tour of the South Bronx organized by Time's Up and led by Harry Bubbins. As you'll see in my slideshow, the coastline around the South Bronx has no parks and greenways like parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Hopefully this will change. -
NYC Bike Maps
Posted on May 18, 2010 | No CommentsThe New York City Cycling Map (the 2010 version is now available) is an invaluable resource for navigating the bike lanes of the city. I also make extensive use of Google maps. When I'm biking, I constantly use my iPhone's GPS and mapping functionality. -
