  • Kayaking on the Hudson River is one of the great free pleasures offered in New York City. The Downtown Boathouse has three kayaking locations along the west side of Manhattan. I managed to take a few photos while enjoying the spectacular views.

  • On Saturday afternoon I took a bike trip up to the High Bridge and High Bridge Tower in Northern Manhattan. High Bridge, part of the Old Croton Aqueduct that brought fresh water to the city starting in the 1840s, is the oldest standing bridge in New York.

  • On Sunday I walked from Gracie Mansion to the United Nations (about 90th street to 42nd Street). The highlights for me were the small, out-of-the-way streets, alleys and overlooks such as Henderson Place, Riverview Terrace and Beekman Place. I've included a slideshow.

  • This past Monday, Memorial Day,  I went on a wonderful walk from Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument at 89th Street and Riverside Drive to the Battery. My trip along the Hudson took me through Riverside Park, Hudson River Park, Battery Park City and Battery Park.
