Visiting the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

This weekend I visited the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum for the first time. The Intrepid initially opened in 1982 and is located on the west side of Manhattan on Pier 86 (46th Street and the Hudson River).

I’ve passed the huge Intrepid aircraft ship many times on my bike and I’m glad I finally explored this popular tourist site. I spent a couple of hours on the ship itself, which includes an excellent historical overview of this Essex-class aircraft carrier on the hanger deck and the flight deck features almost two-dozen fighter planes, helicopters and reconnaissance aircraft.

On Pier 86, alongside the Intrepid, you can enter the Growler Submarine and a British Airways Concorde. And there are three flight simulators that I didn’t take, but they look like fun.
